Michael Gee classical guitar for sale
Michael Gee Grand Concert Spruce Rosewood
Michael has been making high quality guitars for over forty years and has gained an international reputation for building concert level classical guitars. he makes three levels of classical guitar, the Concert, Grand Concert and Collector's Concert Edition. They are all high quality guitars and differ in the selection of woods used, inlay work and the quality of tuning machines.
The guitar is one of Michael's Grand Concert models and has the standard dimensions of 650mm scale and 52mm nut. It has beautifully book matched Rosewood back and sides, a Spruce double top, Ebony fingerboard a lovely, shaped Rosewood saddle and Rodgers tuning machines. To enhance the tone and projection of the guitar, which are both magnificent, Michael has chosen to finish the top in oil rather than French Polish. An increasing number of luthiers are turning to this type of finish as it protects the surface but provides the very thinnest layer so as to allow the soundboard to release its natural vibration. A slightly heavier back and sides also serve to reduce the amount of vibration taken up by the guitar body and so enable more projection. These factors combine to produce a guitar with all the volume characteristics one would expect from a double top instrument, whilst retaining the full range of expressional subtlety. In particular the treble response on all the strings above the 12th fret is balanced and consistent, with no 'dead' notes which can arise on some guitars. This treble response is balanced well by a resonant bass and there is excellent balance between the two. With only minor marks this guitar is a great opportunity to own a guitar from one of the leading UK luthiers at the height of his powers.
