David Merrin Spruce Maple classical guitar
David Merrin NEW Spruce Maple
David is an accomplished player and skilled constructor of classical guitars, and one of the emerging second generation of top flight luthiers. He is one of only two luthiers in the world whose work is endorsed by Jose and Liam Romanillos. He produces only a few high quality guitars per year, concentrating on design and craftsmanship of the highest order. It's interesting that collectors who are reducing the number of their guitars always wish to hold on to a Merrin if they have one, myself included.
The guitar has a Spruce top with Bear-claw, and beautifully book-matched Quilted Maple back and sides. The photos do not do justice to the French Polished Maple which gives a stunning 3-d effect. David crafted the guitar as a lock down project during Covid and has signed the underside of the soundboard to testify the fact. The workmanship is outstanding, from the beautifully crafted V-joint for the headstock, to David's signature rosette and detailed purfling. The air resonance is F#/G. Whilst looking superb, the guitar also has beautifully elegant tone and excellent projection., emanating from a standard body size and 650mm scale length. Bass and treble responses are outstanding with good balance. Tuners are Gotoh. David keeps to a traditional fan-braced design which results in a light guitar which, along with a nut width of 52mm, results in a guitar which is not only responsive, but also is easy to play. To signify that this guitar is special, David has chosen to give it the name 'Palomino' in contrast to his other guitars which are only dated.
